Siege!

Historic Scotland had a family fun day this afternoon at Bothwell Castle.
Various battle re-enactment volunteers showed off their weaponry skills, re-enacting (sort-of!) the siege of the castle in 1301 when it was captured from the Scots (a second time!) by King Edward I of England.

Today's event was also timed to coincide with an archaeological dig at various sites in and around the castle, and other volunteers were on hand to tell visitors about their findings and discoveries.

A fun afternoon!

(and, if I have understood correctly, my 500th Blip. I still have several weeks' worth to back-blip from my Australia holiday last year, or this milestone would have been reached much earlier.)
