Weird Steps

This windmill is called 'Kijck over den Dijck*' in Old Dutch spelling and means: A view over the Dyke.

It's the only remaining windmill in Dordrecht and it's originally built as a wooden standard corn mill in 1612.

The modern stairs leading up to the mill on the dyke are pretty weird as it looks like the architect had a few alcoholic drops to many when he/she designed these odd angled steps.

Nevertheless considering it slightly better I understood they do have a purpose, it allows wheelchairs to smartly zig zag their way up or down.

Enjoy this typical Dutch view of a Dyke and a typical Windmill on a typical Dutch rainy day!

*Personal detail:
To me seeing this view brings back totally less pleasant memories as I spent my early teens in a elite boarding school just under this dyke and often fled to participate in the pottery classes in this windmill only to escape the military regime, returning here means I can deal with that black memory now.
