Curlew

Out early on the bike to try and beat the rain forecast for later in the day. As I left Lastingham and crossed a short section of moorland near Hutton Le Hole I heard the distinctive call of a Curlew. Unusually it was perched on a dry stone wall rather than hidden in the Heather.

It took fright as I dropped the bike and rummaged for the camera. Fortunately it circled and then settled back on the wall. This is the first time I have managed to get a photo of this moorland bird. Well worth getting out early for as it is now pouring down!
