FOXTAIL BARLEY-Hordeum jubatum L.

"Foxtail barley is a tufted perennial, often appearing annual, 1 to 2 feet high, reproducing by seeds and by inconspicuous rhizomes. It is similar to wild barley, but larger; the pale green or reddish bristles are much longer, and finer, not as stiff."

Foxtail Barley is indigenous to AZ. Up until the seed heads form, it is good food for grazing animals but when the Foxtail goes to seed, the sharpness of the spikes can cause cuts/infection in animals.

Despite its danger, it is beautiful when the sun and wind engage the wispy barley.

Long day of work and travel for me...
