Jewels In The Mud

It was another day of extreme heat, but thankfully an afternoon storm gave some small relief. I took Music to the Inner Harbor Park, and  looked over the pier railing in time to see this little fellow crawl out of a hole in the mud.

As a child, I remember walking the path that led through the marsh to my uncle's shrimp boat. Always there were hordes of these tiny fiddler  crabs scurrying over the mud. I seem to remember every color of the rainbow: bright orange and red as well as the blue and green. As the path was made of shards of colorful broken pottery, there seemed to be sunlit jewels wherever I looked. At least, in my memory...
