This Old Town

I always think of an imaginary line stretching across France from about Poitiers to Lake Geneva. South of this to me is where you really feel you're getting into a Mediterranean climate. Nothing you can really define at first, but the vegetation and plants begin to look different. There are different birds and trees and a sort of baked earth feeling. In the South East especially the mountains and strange rock formations, the forests and gorges and darting lizards appear, there's a piney smell oh and the ants. The further south you go the bigger the ants.
Yesterday we crossed this line going back North, and now although it's still hot today, it does seem a bit greener and fresher.
We are in Troyes, a city we've always intended to return to. It's beautiful with many tall narrow half timbered ancient buildings, a vast cavernous Cathedral, and more churches than you would think strictly necessary for one city.
Tomorrow we head for Calais and are hoping the current problems are sorted out.
