Tradition

This sight has been going back hundreds of years but instead of a van there might have been a horse and cart, or a push cart or indeed just a man bearing a side of a carcass.

In Bridport in Dorset there is a family butcher whose business has been carrying on since 1515, a license was granted in 1535,  perhaps the oldest business of that sort in the world. It was started by Robert Balson in the time of Henry VIII and now over 500 years later his descendant Richard Balson is still running the business.  After the last war there were 80,000 butchers but now the number has diminished to just 12,000.

Tidying the house in readiness for my cousins' visit from Oregan!  Our agronomist also had a meeting with us concerning next year's crop plan.
