Yes, I have tampered with the background but not the flower (apart from some simple focus stacking).

I'm not sure if many of you will recognise this common flower. If you want a clue: it is a garden escape.

Now to reveal what the flower was:
It was a feral lupin viewed straight down from above the apex of the spike. Two images of it were combined to give more effective depth of field: in one the focus was on the unopened buds, in the other the focus was on the topmost layer of opened flowers. The in-focus parts of each were combined.
