The PEI Pilot Leaves Maasdam.

The Maasdam sailed from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island at about 6:00PM this evening. We glided for about two hours before passing under the enormous bridge that joins PEI to the mainland of Nova Scotia – with about 10 feet to spare…  Waiting on the western side of the bridge was a sturdy-looking lobster boat which approached us from the starboard beam, skillfully matching the ship’s speed.  This was clearly the PEI pilot tender there to take off the pilot and return him to Charlottetown.  He is the chap in the red life jacket.  The lady was taking photographs; this must be a family affair.   There was a farewell round of horn-blowing and waves from both the Maasdam’s bridge and the tender and we are off around the western tip of PEI, then north around the Peninsule Gaspesienne and then south by west into the mouth of the mighty Saint Laurent.
