Backstreets of Bradnich

We wandered around Bradnich a small village in Devon with a small group of friends before retreating to a nearby pub.  The sun was shining and I enjoyed its warmth and light after the trip to Dartmoor this morning.

The early morning outing was with a group of bird watchers.  We arrived in the centre of Dartmoor near Challocombe Farm and spent several hours wandering around this area as the mist and rain slowly enveloped us.  There was lots of entertaining animal activity which started when four small pigs approached  and slowly shuffled alongside us.  The pigs chased off a group of handsome chickens and ambled into a field of cows with their calves and two bulls.  The cows were distressed by the pigs and chased them out of the field.  We were also walking across the field and quickly side stepped as the two bulls came over to see what the fuss was about.  At the end of the outing as we stood in the rain waiting to leave I watched as a sheep walked across a cattle grid followed by her lambs.  One of the lambs caught her two back legs in the grid then her two front legs and then her head!  One of the group came to her rescue and she was pulled out and quickly reunited with the others.  We did see some birds which included Winchat, Redstart, Stonechat, Wheatear, Mistle thrush, Tree pipet, Swallows and Martins but no Cuckoos.
