End of an Era

Today the world's only remaining Vulcan Bomber carried out a Farewell flight - one of two, the last being tomorrow.

She flew up the east coast to East Fortune near Edinburgh then down the west coast via Carlisle and Barton and Manchester and Woodford before going en route back to Doncaster.

I went to the BaE Systems factory which was directly on her track, and watched as time wound back 40 years. What an amazing and awe inspiring sight, and a reminder of a time when the Cold War was at its height and we had dozens of these aircraft ready to deliver a killer punch to Russia.

It is strange to think that we are now on the brink of another Cold War with the same enemy, and yet we have nothing in our armoury to really compete.

Worrying times.
