Journey home

Friday was home time - we got up in time to wave off the early folks and were all packed and ready to vacate the villa by our 10 am deadline. Since our flight wasn't until the afternoon we drove to the airport via a stop in Padova where Em had cunningly researched both parking and park and dropped us about 200 yards from somewhere with fountains and grottos and pigeons to chase plus a really good toddler play area. We left there around 12:30 and the rest of the day was basically travelling, plus our farewells to Em and James at the airport.

A downpour as we were due to depart added a bus to our journey to save us the 200 yard walk to the plane (we were soggy in just a short dash to the steps). Then there followed plane, taxi, two trains and another taxi before we got home around 10 pm. Considering Matthew only got a 40 minute nap on the plane he did really well the whole way - but I think we'll be trying to split journeys over two days in future or finding easier airports to fly from (coordinating with Em and James was the big factor this time).

Anyway here he is on the train playing 'garages' with a toy car and some wiggly balloons which turned out to be a pretty good investment by Dave even though we can't actually blow them up :)
