Bb Sees BiBi!

I'm coming very late to the story of Bibi Ferreira; 90 years late, minus one day if you believe her birth certificate which evidences her 90th birthday as being tomorrow. Her mother thought she was actually born on the 1st of June 1922, her father thought it was the 4th!

But even with little knowledge of this actress, singer, composer, director and entertainer, it did not take two seconds to recognise her talents and appreciate the love and esteem with which she was held by all in the audience, many in their eighties and nineties, as well...long will I remember the delighted and filial glances of many offspring checking their mothers or aunts were enjoying themselves.

And how could they not, as BiBi reprised her greatest successes; she brought My Fair Lady to the Rio stage in the early sixties, as well as Maria from West Side Story and portrayed Piaf in the decade just past.

She stood there (and this shot is the best I could get), solidly planted but with slightly hunched shoulders and arms that are beginning to lose their firmness. But, my goodness, that voice held every note and filled the theatre with incredible lustre, especially when she sang in Spanish and French.

Her Piaf set brought the house down, and when she eventually departed the stage she left us, every one of us, wanting to dance all night. And we could've, for sure.
