1000 Islands. Leitz Telyt-V 200mm

Our cruise came to an end in Montreal early this morning.  The crew of the Maasdam had to scrub everything top to toe, re-victual the ship and take on another 1200 passengers for the return voyage to Boston.  We picked up our rental car and headed off to an area between Ontario and New York State known as "1000 Islands".  This is the fifty mile or so stretch of the St. Laurence where it flows from the north-east corner of Lake Ontario.  The waters are very treacherous - despite the navigation channel being clearly marked by buoys - yet are plied by quite large freighters.  I found it quite hard to believe until actually seeing it, that, by means of the St. Laurence Seaway, ships are able to sail from the Atlantic Ocean into the very heartland of the U.S.
