25 years

Gillian Clarke, national poet of Wales, speaking at the 25th anniversary of Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre, the institution she founded with her husband David and Sally Baker and her husband Ellis. Sally went on to manage the centre until a few years ago, when Literature Wales took it over. I've been working here as hospitality manager, but am leaving shortly. You can see more of the house here in Ceridwen's blip: https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2059922618152124436

The anniversary celebration was a small affair, with the participants of the poetry course that Gillian was tutoring alongside Maura Dooley, and a few members of Literature Wales staff and invitees, including a descendant of David Lloyd George, previous occupant of the house.

Though she has no official operational role within the organisation or the running of the house, Gillian is remarkably involved and invested in the future of the place, a kind of matron, and treated with due respect by everyone who comes here.
