Where the bee should have been

A glorious summer day (all day) at last. We’ve even got the barbecue out. I went searching for bees, as I thought it would be an appropriate blip, but no bees to be found. I suppose it was a bit windy at the time, which does put them off. However, I’m just wondering whether to put a notice on the gate – We do have a few flowers here now!

I thought I would share with you something that has amused us today.

On Thursday 2nd July we are going with our daughter and son-in-law to the Open Air theatre in Regent’s Park – another Chekhov, The Seagull. Today our daughter got an email (she booked the tickets) to say that they were re-scheduling the performance slightly on that day (making the interval longer) because of possible disturbance from ‘4th July’ celebrations at the American Ambassador’s residence close by.

Our son-in-law thought of this as a scenario:

American Ambassador: Independence Day is such an important day in the history of the USA. The 4th July celebrations are something that everyone looks forward to. What an important date it is… By the way, what time are we having our celebration this year?
Planning Team: 2nd July
American Ambassador: Perfect…
