This has been in the possession of the Gage dynasty for hundreds of years. Sir John was a close friend of Henry VIII and held many state positions. He was, however, a Catholic, and when the problems over Henry's divorce and split from the Catholic Church escalated into violence, he was lucky to keep his positions, money, estates, head and entrails.
