Montague Bridge

On Flumlet-minding duty again, after lunch we took a long summery walk/buggyride round Dalkeith Park.

There is much going on, with remote-control lawnmowing, 'forestry activities' and alterations to the stables. We were informed this is to make a playground, café, shops and more carparking; also the orangery seems to be undergoing a tidy-up. All of this entailed a constant bustle of lorries and dumper trucks, which would have entertained the Flumlet had he been awake.

Here is the classic view of Montague Bridge, which is A-listed, built by Robert Adam in 1791 and on his death completed by James Adam. It is named after Lady Elizabeth Montague who married Henry, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch. At one time the bridge was more ornate, but the two stags which supported the Buccleuch arms, frightened the horses crossing the bridge so much, they had to be removed.

Edit: Following comments regarding the remote-controlled lawnmower I have added the photo to prove it!
