Orange tanned legs and fluorescent clothing abound in Appleby. It's the horse fair and the town centre is a complete carnival. Traditional horse-drawn caravans, bling, public disorder offences, horse-washing in the River Eden, cart-racing and, for only a tenner, a light-up pope picture.
