On the way home

This was taken just this morning before we left the barn we have been staying in for the last few days. We have had a lovely time together as a family like this for the first time since 2010 when we went to Norfolk for a week.  An awful lot has happened in those five years, far too much to write about here, but I suppose the most significant has been Mom's diagnosis of vascular dementia.

What we have learned over this little holiday has been invaluable in how we may be able to provide support for Dad as he looks after Mom with all the mood swings, lack of logic, depression, inability to make decisions and everything else that is so difficult to describe.  We hadn't realised just how bad things were.

Underneath all that, our Mom is still there sometimes, when she is sweet and kind and grateful and chatty about all the things she remembers from the past.  Those times are precious.

So, we are home now and things are back to "normal", the washing is on the line, it's incredibly hot, might have to get the fan out in the bedroom tonight!

Work tomorrow, must go and water some plants and see if the washing is dry.

Hope you have all had a good day.
