Canada Day Celebration

On the occasion of Canada Day I found this old St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, which is part of Canadian history.
Among the early settlers in close by area where I live was the Nunan family, originally from Ireland. William Nunan purchased a lot in 1854, at what is today the Northwest corner of Britannia Road and Ninth Line in Mississauga. The area soon attracted more Irish Catholic settlers, and it became known as the “Catholic Swamp” due to the poor nature of soil and the propensity for flooding. The first church was built in 1823-24. and remodelled in 1882.
This old church is open on Sundays for 7:30 am mass and reminds us of its pioneer roots. The quiet graveyard remains as testimony for those who worked hard on what initiated town where is my home.
Happy Canada Day!
