All alone

This tree stood all alone in a field at the beginning of our walk along the Exe Valley Way.  It was forecast as one of the hottest days but in this neck of the woods rain was also forecast.  So it was a hot humid but mainly cloudy day when our local group of walkers set out on the 4th Stage of our walk from the mouth to the source of the River Exe.  This part covered Tiverton to Bampton.

The walk started with a walk through Tiverton  past the Heathcote fabrics factory and out into fields and hilly woodland lanes above the river valley.  During the walk we encountered several interesting scarecrows  on display as part of the upcoming village fair, an eco house being built on the side of a hill and an old quarry with a woodland for sale.  The walk was rounded off with tea, pimms or ice creams in the pretty village of Bampton.

In all we covered over 9 miles so a good walk considering the hot weather.
