Timber Transport

Timber Transport is a big thing in Argyll.   There is lots of felling going on and therefore many lorries on the road, some with huge trailers and all heavily laden.

The Scottish Government's  Timber Transport Fund, provided by the Forestry Commission,  does a very good job in investing in alternative routes that can either separate the heavy vehicles from cars and other traffic  (as in forest roads)  or create improved facilities for both.

The road I take to Dunoon every time I go to the office, and which Cathleen uses everyday to go to work, is a case in point.  It is mostly single track but with a considerable investment from the Timber Transport Fund over the past eighteen months the passing places have been lengthened,  a double  width  has been created in some places and generally the route is now much more capable of taking the mix of traffic which uses it including the timber lorries.

These signs are new and acknowledge those who have made the project happen as well as serving as a warning in case some people meet what they don't expect  (though they should on any  rural road hereabouts) .
