Houses at St John's Hill, Wareham

The house to the left, Gold Court, is reputedly on the site of one of the town's two royal mints during Anglo-Saxon times. It is known to have been rebuilt after the Great Fire of Wareham in 1762 on the foundations
of the 13th Century goldsmith's house.

The three houses to the right of Gold Court are from the early 19th century. The third of these is a public house, the Horse and Groom.  Wareham has a total of eight pubs to choose from.

This photo was taken fairly early in the morning, before the opening of most of Wareham's shops.  Half an hour later this uncluttered view would have been impossible, as a stream of motorists would be looking for parking spaces here.
