another arch

"All experience is an arch, wherethrough gleams the untravelled world, whose margin fades forever and forever when I move."

Today I took Metro line 1 to the Utmost West of Paris, La Defense. I was there to visit the Grande Arche, designed by the Danish architect Otto Von Spreckelson and inaugurated in 1989. It is made of white marble and glass, and intended to be a symbol of hope for the future of humanity.

Here are the steps up to the arch. From the top, you can see the Arc du Triomphe, several miles away. It's interesting to contrast the architecture and intention of the two arches. Or just to sit on the steps and watch children chase the pigeons.
