Mountain Ringlets surveyed

A team of five of us surveyed the high fell side of High Raise above Haweswater for Mountain Ringlet butterflies. We shared out walking the 14 transect lines each about 1km marking where we saw the butterflies. I haven't heard the total yet, but it must have been above 1,000 which means it's a good year.

It is a priority species for conservation efforts and someone was studying them in detail here this year.

Lots of meadow pipits and skylarks around, some with what must be a second brood of eggs - see extra photo.
