Rusting

Our vision of both the past and the future are slowly rusting apathetically away.  I was appalled when I reached Kitt Peak National Observatory, outside of Tucson, Arizona, and found many of the buildings protecting delicate, world-class astronomical instruments suffering from the neglect of budget cuts and public apathy.  It was a very sad day.
