Smugglers Cove

Today's the day ........................ for a Bay walk

This is a little inlet on Morecambe Bay near the village of Silverdale.

It's called Smugglers Cove although nobody really knows whether smugglers ever did use the cave - that you can see in the cliffs - for hiding any contraband.  It certainly looks the sort of place that they should have used!  In the far distance across the Bay, you can see the small settlement of Grange-over-Sands.

Despite its pleasing aspect, Morecambe Bay is notorious as being a place of very treacherous currents, swift flowing tides and dangerous sinking sands.  It is possible to walk across to Grange at low tide but you have to know what you're doing.

It's always best to go with the official 'Queen’s Guide to the Sands of Morecambe Bay'  - contracted by the Queen herself to guide people across .............................
