An afternoon at Sapsucker Woods..

After lots of rain we decided to chance walking toward Fuller Wetlands overlooking Kip's Barn.  We found the trails were packed down and not slippery, but we had to stick to the trail as the water was deep on both sides. We tried to walk a little further on The Wilson trail but a large male Canada Goose stood guard whilst letting the female cross to go down that trail with her very large goslings following after her, so we turned back, deciding not to go near him.   We saw water snakes, bullfrogs, Red-winged Blackbirds, a Great Blue Heron, an airplane, an American Robin eating a berry, fungi, a deep pink flower (top right) where the opened florets looked like tiny Aliens, beautifully textured bark, waterlilies, and many colorful different blooms.  We went upstairs into the library - my Granddaughter did a birds of North America jigsaw puzzle and I read her a lovely story "The Rainbow Bird" I think was the title (now we know why Crows are black and have a hoarse Caw rather than being colorful and able to sing a sweet song), and she always likes to see the Fantasy Owl in the corner.  It didn't rain after-all  - we had superstitiously carried our umbrella to keep the rain away!
