Ceiling Dome

Out and about today I popped into the Chamber Art Gallery in the Rangiora Library to get this shot.

The room is now used for small concerts - duets, trio's, quartets, small choirs and is also our local art gallery, but back in 1907 it was the local Council Chambers with this beautiful leadlight ceiling dome being a notable feature.

The building was used as the Council Chambers until 1966, when the Rangiora Library and the Council swapped places. The building became increasingly inadequate as Rangiora and the surrounding district’s population grew and it was almost threatened with demolition, but was retained by a narrow vote of the Council in favour of incorporating it into the new library building and using the space as an art gallery.

The Chamber Gallery was closed in June 2011 due to concerns about the stability of some of the walls after the recent earthquakes. Strengthening work and refurbishment was carried out in 2012 and the Gallery reopened in August 2012.

So rescued twice the ceiling dome continues to grace the small Chamber Art Gallery and is worthy of a blip.

It's been cold today, 6C, with a bitterly cold wind this morning and cold scattered showers this afternoon. Will snow be on my doorstep tomorrow, probably not but time will tell.

Yesterday's mystery shot for tiny Tuesday was quite easy and most of you got it - it was indeed a hairbrush. I did enjoy reading about electric toothbrush heads, matchstick heads and even vibrating matchsticks, you all did well :)

Hubby has just text me to say he's on the way home so I'd best go and get some tea on - Happy Wednesday everyone :)

Edit: No wide angle Wednesday from me this week.
