Yellow Shell day

There were a few sunny periods today, but mostly it was overcast and a bit dismal in the woods where I was surveying...and there were at least three spells of heavy rain, making the vegetation rather sodden. There were still plenty of insects to be seen, but the highlight was the sheer numbers of this moth, Yellow Shell, that I disturbed in the ground vegetation that has flourished since thinning the trees a couple of years ago. I must have seen about 100 moths, far more than I've ever noticed before.
