The Kings' Screen, York Minster

One of the largest Gothic Cathedrals in Northern Europe. And the most amazing stained glass. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here today. We climbed the 275 steps to the top of the tower, had a tour (very well guided), listened to a rehearsal of unaccompanied choral music, in awe of the details in stone carvings in the huge Chapter House, and visited the new Undercroft exhibition, which shows the Roman remains discovered in the foundations, and history of the place.

I was really taken with this Kings' Screen, fifteen kings of England from William the Conqueror to Henry VI.

We also enjoyed a visit to The Treasurer's House (including the ghost tour), ambled along the old cobbled streets, found the narrow Shambles, popped into Betty's, and walked the walls.

And the sun shone. A grand day out.
