Common Buckeye

My photo walk had to be in the afternoon today when it was really too hot to be out---but I found this pretty fellow along the hike and bike trail----and finally found out that he is a Common Buckeye.  The extra photo shows the underside of his wings which I also think is very attractive and helpful for identification......
