Roots day 2

This is some of my family from England.
Today was a bus trip to the area in East Donegal where my ancestors lived when they came over during the plantation of Ulster, they grew flax, before they moved to The Grove in Ardstraw. There is a great heritage centre in at Monreagh, we were officially welcomed by Kieran (from Heritage Centre), the Donegal Mayor in full regalia (who presented us all with Clans of the Laggan, East Donegal Society certificates) & Michael Heaney, Donegal Diaspora (promoting links with anyone connected with Donegal).

We went to the church opposite built in 1610, for a short talk. It is in great order, what I found amazing, was that the windowpanes were even dated back to that early date & from the pews the view out of the church across the countryside was amazing.

We then have tea, sandwiches, scones, traybakes in the nearby church hall & we were entertained by a piano accordion player. Headed on to another church where there were very early graves, then on to Carrigans, where there was a scutch mill, through St Johnston on to Ardstraw, past The Grove & back to Omagh.
Another evening get together this evening to complete the event
