Scoots, Shoots & Leaves

Baby bumps!

I've known Anna (on the left) since she was about five, and now here she is, just a few months away from having her first baby! She and Cassi (right) would ordinarily be due around the same time, but Cassi is carrying twins! so all bets are off for her due date.

These two and a half a dozen other women were here in our back yard doing some planning and strategizing for the September women's music camp we all participate in. We discussed tasks that need to be done at camp and before, and how to get the word out so we can get more people signed up for it. It's always such a great time, who wouldn't want to come!?

The camp organizer, Connie (who's also the grandmother to Anna's baby-to-be) brought a feast of Balinese food prepared by her daughter-in-law Yuli, who's from Bali. There's a photo in today's extras of what we were treated to: Nasi Kuning - yellow rice, potato dumpling, sweet tempeh and egg served in a banana leaf; some peanut flour wafers; and Mata Hari (sun blossom) cookies - a delicate, slightly sweet, fried dessert a bit like rosettes. What a treat! Great flavor combinations and fun to look at, too.
