Splendid snail

I'm usually not that keen on snails - or slugs or earthworms come to that - but I was quite taken with this little one with its bright orange shell. I wonder if it stays like that or whether it darkens as it gets older. I met this one on the path up to the post box and thought it was good to have an orange shell as it would be less likely that someone would step on it. Needless to say it was crossing the path at a snail's pace ;-) Sorry - couldn't resist it!
