From the beginning

Southern Alps

Taken from Lake Ellesmere on the way back from Akaroa.
Well that turned out to be an interesting trip. Firstly a lot of the places were closed for the season but it was sunny and we had a good look around, Going for dinner last night and all the places we wanted to go had either burnt down (the fish and chip shop) or were closed for the season (no Thai for us). We ended up going to L Hotel and although we were the only people in there (5 staff for 2 of us) there was a great big warm fire on and the food was great.
Later a storm hit turned and we watched the sea spilling onto the road in front of the house.
Got up this morning and the hills were very white so we decided to skip breakfast and head straight home in case we got stuck there and Diane missed her flight in the morning. It was a treacherous drive home climbing up the hill in snow, ice and gale force winds.

More snow forecast for tomorrow, as long as its after Di's departure it can do what it likes:-)
