Windmill

Before we left for our holiday here on Lefkas, as he usually does, my hubby spent hours scouring
Google Earth looking for interesting and out of the way places to visit while we're away.
His list for our visit to Lefkada had 12 places that he thought would be worth visiting, these included a couple of the many beaches,
a couple of the many castles, but what i know he likes most of all are  those hard to get to places,
the highest point on the island, the windmill at Eglouvi and the lighthouse at the very southern tip of the island.
Today was our third attempt to get to the Windmill at Eglouvi.
First attempt we left it too late, the sun had already set when we got to the area where it was located.
Second attempt, we'd asked a local man for directions to the windmill, he was adamant that its was a very dangerous trip due to the state of the track, so we talked it over and decided against it.
Hubby being the bloke he is, wasn't going to let it go, so today we set off for the windmill, bearing in mind the warning from the car hire people
when we picked up the Suzuki Jimny from the office in Nidri, "No offroading or Safari"     "Yeah Right"
Left the villa at 3pm, finally came to rest by the windmill, 2hrs 50mins later, bearing in mind that from our villa, the windmill is no more than 9 miles as the crow flies.
My images show the pair of windmills that sit on this ridge at 915mtrs above sea level, one is totally original, being in a delapidated state,
while the second was rebuilt in 2005 according to a plaque above the door at the rear of the mill.
The canvas sails are just tatters now, according to a plaque thats nailed to a tree close by the renovation cost 85,000 euro.
Why invest that money and not have a sign post of any sort pointing the way to the mill, the track to the mill was fully overgrown for its whole 3 km length.
Still, we made it, please don't tell the hire car people.
The main image is of the restored windmill, extra image of the pair of mills with the older mill in the foreground.
