Arnside

Today's the day ........................ when the tide was out

Arnside is a completely different place when it's low tide in the Kent Estuary.

There are all the usual landmarks of course - the railway viaduct across the bay, the rugged limestone crag of Whitbarrow with the high fells of the Lake District behind.  But instead of the expanse of water looking for all the world like proper sea, there are shallow pools, mudbanks and steep-sided creeks. 

That's when the waders and other estuarine birds come into their own ........................
