One door closes...

... and another one opens. After 8 years Joe has left his primary school for pastures new. They had a beautiful leavers' assembly this morning. Nary a dry eye in the place as they sang reworked versions of various songs to say goodbye to the school and their friends. Some will move with them to their new school of course, but there will be others that don't, and they know that despite their best intentions these friendships will be inevitably lost along the way. It's a hard fact to face at 11 years old, emotions will run high for a few days yet.

Still, there was a lot of celebration too, Joe received the special achievement award for 'creativity' which made his day, although I think he was secretly hoping for the 'class clown' award. It was also good to see some traditions still alive and strong, like the 'inking of the shirts' that I had to get here in the blip as Joe was winding down at the end of the day. I seem to remember a lot more hi-jinx involving eggs and flour when I was a kid, but maybe it's not so bad that's fallen out of fashion.

So, as Mr. Cooper once said - "School's out for summer" and now we have 7 weeks of fun and games with the sprogs at home.

It's all good :)
