Using an image to prepare for a painting

This is an image of the Creek in Staithes, North Yorkshire that I have prepared as a cartoon to show the main areas of tone and colour and a few shape outlines too.
This helps me to visualise how the scene will look in it's final painted form.
For once, a lack of sky detail doesn't matter as any sky that takes the fancy can be painted in
