Will and the Garfish

Suddenly found out I could go with the senior lads on a fishing trip and get back in time to make dinner - so off we all went. Such fun. We motored out to sea, switched off the engine, and began fishing... Nothing for ages; then Nathan caught one so small it had to be thrown back. Again, nothing for ages... and then, suddenly, one after the other caught mackerels big enough to keep.

And then Will came up with this fellow, who is apparently a garfish. Love the look on his face. They asked if we wanted it - they said, the Irish eat it... so we thought, let's try it...

I fried the lot up in butter for them as soon as we got back (see the extra) - several pan loads, for lunch, and then started on dinner (which went down well - pasta bake, vegs, and a dressed salad, plus crumble and ice-cream for dessert).

The garfish tasted like cod, though very bony.
