Who remembers the mangle?

Artist friend Christine McIver invited me over to her studio this afternoon for a spot of printing , using her old washing mangle.

I wonder how many people are old enough to remember the mangle, an essential part of the weekly wash?  I know that on the farm in Wales where I grew up we had a washouse where there was a big mangle along wiith a tub for washing  all the farm clothes.

Today  automatic washing machines have replaced it . Instead of being consigned to the scrapheap the mangle has re-invened itself  in the 21s century as a printing press for artists.
