Connel Bridge and Falls of Lora

A day of dodging the heavy showers. We had to have a bridge inspection, in fact we had three. This one won my Blip. Built in 1903 by Arrol, as a railway bridge, a roadway was added in 1914, but trains and vehicles could not cross at the same time. Since the 60s, it has been a single carriage road bridge, with traffic lights.

The Falls are under the bridge, where the narrow exit of Loch Etive meets the sea. A lot of whirlpools and water movement, particularly at the high spring tides. We could see the strong currents and vortex swirls today, and rewarded spotting a seal catch a huge fish.

We also visited Bonawe Iron Furnace, walked in Sutherland's Grove and enjoyed views of Castle Stalker. Ended the day with delicious lemon sole, and then a walk to the Oban War Memorial as the Mull Ferry sailed by.
