Pikomanu Tunnel

This is the 185 metre long Pikomanu railway Tunnel at Kawatiri which is now a walkway. The line was never finished, probably due to more than one reason but I was told it was for the need for steel? The reason why I have taken this photo of the entrance to the tunnel is that my Great Grandfather was the engineer for its construction which was completed in 1923. I am off to Dunedin this weekend to a family reunion, as our family arrived in New Zealand 150 years ago, and we have been asked to bring photo's along.
