Smell the aroma!

I have tried very hard here to push the bounds of technical possibility and I give you . . . an aroma! Look carefully at the blip (ignore the animal cages, they have nothing to do with this) and when you have found the smoke take a large sniff and what do you smell?

It's roasting coffee! There you are . . . you knew it was all along.

I have mentioned before that Carlisle, nice as it is, is a city that thinks like a town. There is no theatre, no concert hall, no . . . well I won't go on.

However, what it does have, or more precisely what is has retained, are some independent specialist shops, the kind that are apparently disappearing fast from most high streets.

John Watt is one of these. It is a Coffee Shop, one that sells coffee of every kind and flavour. It's where we buy all our coffee beans. It is exceptionally good coffee and why? Because they roast their own. Hence often, as you arrive in the centre of Carlisle, you can smell the roasting as I did this morning. Good isn't it?

It is also a café which seems to survive the onslaught of the likes of Costa, Starbucks and Cafe Nero, which have incidentally only fairly recently arrived.
