Never again

This wasn’t going to be a picture of traffic and rain, but that’s all we’ve seen all day – so it is a picture of traffic and rain.

When we both became self-employed/retired, after having had a whole lifetime of being restricted to school holidays, we made a vow never to travel in school holidays ever again. Hence we always go to France in September. This year we took a chance and booked a house for a week of the school holidays, basically so we could spend some time with our granddaughters. All I can say now is – never again!

Appalling weather from Birmingham south, the most horrific hold-ups, crawling traffic for mile after mile after mile.  After ten and a quarter hours on the road, we are done in. Arrived at our house (which seems to be okay), emptied the car, dumped everything, managed to make a meal and eat it, pour the wine. All whilst watching the final of Masterchef.

I had thought to take a super picture of our younger daughter, as she was due to come here for a couple of days. However, she also got stuck in awful traffic on the M25 and her car over-heated. She was rescued by the AA and is returning home.

So, it’s a picture of traffic and rain. We unpack and settle in tomorrow.

(We’re in West Sussex, near Chichester – I think!)
