Vroom vroom

Off to the wonderfully-named Nutts Corner today to watch some go-kart racing, specifically to cheer on number 88 in the pic, Adrian Hegarty.

He's a young guy from Northern Ireland who's competing in Formula Kart Stars, which is an entry-level series organised by the Formula One management people. It doesn't seem entry level, though - the karts zip around at 80mph, with the drivers' backsides only a couple of inches off the tarmac.

The organisation of the event was unbelievably professional. If the programme said Heat 7 would start at 1:32pm, it started at 1:32pm. And the standard of driving was incredibly. These young lads and (a few) lasses were whizzing around fearlessly wheel-to-wheel and nose-to-tail. Impressive stuff.

In somewhat related news, the girl-child has now announced what she wants for Christmas...
