Maersk Missouri off Ness

Today's blipfoto is of the 295 metre big ship, Maersk Missouri passing by the Butt of Lewis and heading for Vancouver Canada. As I watched the ship pass by, my thoughts spooled back to my Grand Aunts, Grand Uncle and Grandfather who, seeking a better life, took on the Ness - Vancouver journey some one hundred years back. Later in the age, my Dad did the same trip as a merchant seaman and more recently my daughter Christina has taken to the seas as a Maersk cadet. The chances are that Christina too will find herself sailing into Vancouver harbour, in the ancient wake of her forebears and family. But then, again - were oceans not made to be crossed?
