Frog orchid

Yesterday I was able to call in at one of my all-time favourite nature reserves, Martin Down. It is just in Hampshire, but is virtually at the meeting point of that county with Dorset and Wiltshire. The great swathes of flower studded grassland were looking superb and, despite the strong wind, there were plenty of butterflies on the wing, including Dark Green Fritillaries. I was thrilled to find a large patch of tiny Frog Orchids just 10 minutes into our walk, at exactly the place where I found them over 40 years ago.
